It began with Steph and Ayesha Curry’s son, Cannon Curry, having allergic reactions to all things dairy. Ayesha changed the ingredients to her dishes for her son to reflect a more vegan lifestyle. The rest of the Curry family, however, took a liking to the food made especially for Cannon. Now, everyone enjoys vegan-friendly meals. So, how did Ayesha Curry convince her other children, Ryan and Riley, to become more health-conscious along with their brother? The celebrity mom, who continues to grow her brand in the culinary field, shares her story.

“I was having the hardest time getting on-board and being comfortable with being dairy-free because I couldn’t find the right cheese, and I love cheese,” Ayesha admits to ESSENCE. Mrs. Curry ultimately found what she was looking for in the brand So Delicious Dairy Free. The entrepreneur partnered with the company after getting her family hooked on dairy alternatives.

Cannon Curry was the first in the family to go dairy-free because of health issues. “He just had some intolerances and allergies,” Ayesha reveals. “Him going more plant-based instead of having dairy has made a difference for him with asthma and eczema.”

A more plant-based diet has also made a difference for Mrs. Curry. “I started to see a shift in my skin and acne, and my gut health, and just feeling lighter,” Ayesha tells ESSENCE. “I noticed a huge shift and didn’t really realize until I switched over how much dairy I was intaking. You don’t really realize until you make the switch and what a difference it makes.”

It is one thing to convince adults to adopt a more vegan-friendly diet. Getting kids to eat alternatives for cheese is another story. Still, Ayesha Curry advises parents to take the risk.

“Just do it,” Mrs. Curry advises. “Don’t tell them, just make the switch first,” the celebrity mom further suggests. “Put it on the table and watch everyone in shock when you make the announcement once the plates are empty.”
