DEYJAH HARRIS CONTINUES HER TALK ON MENTAL HEALTH IN LENGTHY ESSAY
T.I.’s daughter, Deyjah Harris, wants those dealing with mental illness to know they are not alone in the fight. The 19-year-old recently wrote a guide meant to help both the person suffering as well as the caregiver in matters of mental health.

“Healing can be such a continuous and up and down process,” Deyjah begins in her guide. “There will be lots of emotions that come with healing and can honestly be quite draining,” the young adult admits. “You can feel like you’re making progress for weeks or maybe even months and then boom, it seems as though everything you worked so hard for comes crashing back down.”
Deyjah Harris is a strong advocate for mental health. In fact, it was just a few weeks ago that T.I.’s daughter took to her YouTube channel to talk about mental health. Deyjah admitted that she dealt with depression and low self-esteem when she was younger. The 18-year-old also gave her viewers advice on how to navigate when issues related to mental health arise.
“Getting help can take many forms and although this might take practice, especially if you’ve spent years criticizing yourself, I want you all to know that it is okay,” Harris shares in her recent guide. “Just because ‘time heals all wounds’ doesn’t mean that the scars won’t still be there. You take as long as you need when it comes to you and your healing because this journey is your own unique experience. No matter where you are with your recovery, your current situation doesn’t make you incapable of creating a new reality for yourself. No matter where you are with your recovery, your current situation doesn’t make you incapable of creating a new reality for yourself,” Deyjah writes.
She adds, “If you are aware of the fact that someone is dealing with mental health challenges, please do not wait to reach out to that person. Sometimes talking to someone about what’s troubling them is the first step to getting them the support they need.”

Harris also shares tips on ways friends, family members, and loved ones can provide help and support:
“Encourage, love, and support them while you have the time to. Keep in touch with them whenever you can just to check in with them and see how they’re doing. Send a text or give them a call to remind them how proud you are of them because it can be difficult to stay consistent with recovery. Communicate to them that their challenges will not affect your love, comfort, and moral support for him or her.”
